Upholstery Shop Manager

The Upholstery Shop Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient manufacturing process of marine seating which includes fabricating, repairing and replacing seat upholstery as well as complete seat building duties.  In addition, responsibilities include managing and motivating a team, building quality products, managing expectations and developing business solutions including creating effective business plans to generate more revenue, increase brand loyalty, and improve customer satisfaction while representing Sportsman Boats Mfg. in a professional, quality, and customer-focused manner.

This is a key leadership role and an integral part of the Sportsman Boats management team.

What you will do:

  • Total responsibility of upholstery department  including planning, manufacturing, production, safety, and employee management
  • Monitor and initiate improvements to throughput, span-time, productivity, and on-time delivery
  • Manage resources within given areas of responsibility to ensure staffing and equipment readiness levels match business activity levels
  • Recommend enhancements to existing and future production methods and material flows in effort to provide optimum manpower and equipment utilization
  • Provide operational input and guidance to engineers for new product development, process improvement and process capability
  • Supervise team members in accordance with Sportsman Boat’s policies and applicable laws; to include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues
  • Provide coaching and development to team members, ensuring that the machine operators have the training, tools, resources and support needed to perform their jobs at optimal levels
  • Promote, maintain, and enforce quality work by establishing and enforcing Sportsman Boats standards
  • Promote, maintain, and enforce safe and clean work environment by educating and directing team members on the use of all machinery and work methods
  • Manage departmental annual budgets

Things you have done:

  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in manufacturing cushions and upholstery
  • Minimum 3 of years of supervisory experience in manufacturing
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of material cutting, sewing, upholstery, and foam assembly

Things that will impress us:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred but not required
  • Bilingual Spanish/English 
  • Experience in the marine/boating industry
